About Raman Imaging Group

One of our main research areas is development of spectroscopic methodology for the diagnosis of lifestyle diseases (atherosclerosis, diabetes, hypertension, cancer metastasis, hepatic steatosis, heart failure and aortic stenosis), determination of spectroscopic markers of chemical changes due to pathologies and investigation of cardioprotective drugs.

Another important research topic is investigation of mechanisms of cellular processes in vitro and in vivo, for example cellular responses on inflammatory factors, oxidative stress, investigation of interactions of cells with chemotherapeutics, studies on cell uptake and processes of lipid droplet formation.

The group also conducts research on multi-parameter imaging of tissues and cells, systems with supramolecular chirality and chirality induction phenomena, designing SERS nanosensors for detecting markers of lifestyle diseases, spectroscopic identification of degradation products of painting layers, distribution studies and polymorphism of active substances, analysis of minerals and meteorites.

Currently, the group conducts research within twenty five scientific projects, including the MSCA-ITN-ETN project under the Horizon 2020 and various national programs (NCN, NCBiR, MNiSW). The publishing output of the team since it was created (2009) is about 200 scientific papers in scientific journals and book chapters. The group participates in national and international scientific networks, e.g. the Polish Chemical Society, CLIRSPEC (https://clirspec.org/), the COST Raman4Clinics action.

Raman Imaging Group performs spectroscopic measurements to order (please, contact witch: m.baranska@uj.edu.pl).

CLIRSPEC – the International Society for Clinical Spectroscopy (https://clirspec.org/), whose director is Malgosia, is a non-profit organisation, constituted in 2015. The Society exists to act as a platform for those individuals, teams and organisations wishing to promote the translation of spectroscopy into the clinical environment, for the general benefit of patients; for example, to improve patient diagnosis and prognosis.
