TRI Skin Course: Principles and Practice of Skin Measurement, 2019, 16-17 October

10 October 2019

TRI Princeton is proud to partner with the Society of Cosmetic Chemists to present a 2 day course focusing on Skin Science, Physiology, Biophysics, and various measurement techniques used for skin assessment and product development.

Skin is a complex organ, so the development of effective products and treatments requires an understanding of skin physiology and biochemistry, along with intrinsic and extrinsic factors that affect skin and its overall health. This course will feature leading experts to provide firstly a broad perspective into Skin Science and then secondly a current understanding and elucidation of skin properties and physiology along with the techniques used to measure the impact of products and treatments on the skin.

The topics to be covered include:
• Anatomy and physiology of skin and hair
• Skin safety testing and claim substantiation
• Pre-clinical and clinical skin test design
• Skin moisture and TEWL measurements
• Spectroscopy and skin
• Skin penetration studies
• Skin microbiome measurements
• Skin UV protection studies
• Skin micro-relief and wrinkle studies
• Mechanical testing on skin
• Skin irritation studies

Hands-on laboratory sessions with key instrument suppliers:
• Biox – Capacitance imaging for skin moisture
Bossa Nova – Image analysis for facial gloss and color
• Cyberderm – Skin capacitance and conductivity measurements
• Diastron – Torsional Ballistometer + other devices
Newtone – Full face acquisition system and image analysis for claims substantiation
• PermeGear – Diffusion cell apparatus
• RemSpec – Spectroscopy of skin in vivo
• STE – Imaging and testing instruments for assessment of skin structure and function
