AGE Reader in anti-aging by Diagnoptics

AGEs in skin

AGEs accumulate in the whole body including the skin. Cross-linking of AGEs to proteins such as collagen and elastin leads to damaging these proteins. This will lead to the development of wrinkles and a lack of elasticity and eventually leads to an older appearance.

There are numerous anti-aging and cosmetic products available that specifically target the accumulation of AGEs in the skin.

What do we measure with the AGE Reader?

The AGE Reader measures glycated proteins in tissue: AGEs (Advanced Glycation Endproducts). AGEs accumulate over a person’s lifetime and consequently play a central role in evolving wrinkles and a lack of skin elasticity which might lead to an older skin appearance. Find out more information on the relationship of AGEs and the skin.

Interpretation of measurement

The AGE Reader measurement result consists of an easy to interpret AGE score.  Furthermore, there is a linear relationship between the AGE score and the calender age. Comparing reference values from healthy subjects of the same age to the measurement result creates a result. A colour coded graph displays this information. The green and area indicates there is no increased amount of AGEs. If the result is in the yellow, orange or red area this indicates an increased amount of tissue AGEs.  Consequently, this is an indicator of having/developing wrinkles, loss of skin elasticity and a generally older appearance of the skin.
